Ever feel like you’re torn between the woman you used to be and the mother you are now? 🌿

Last week’s Parents Hub Mum Club session was all about understanding our matrescence - the transformation we go through in motherhood. It changes us in every way - emotionally, psychologically, socially, economically, spiritually, culturally and physically. I also shared two key tools mothers can use to navigate what can be a confusing and disorienting time and enjoyed the honest, open conversations with the group of beautiful women. It was an inspiring time filled with connection, learning, and support. 💖

These conversations remind us that we don’t have to navigate this journey alone. It’s okay to ask for help, and share our challenges.

What does success look like for you? 💭

For so long, I measured my success based on whether I was meeting everyone else’s definitions of success. I didn’t even question whether I agreed or even wanted those things. I just thought that was the way things were.

This is social conditioning at work. Throughout our lives, we absorb ideas about what successful people, women and mothers look like. Sometimes these ideas are obvious and overt and sometimes they are much more subtle. Either way, they become part of our subconscious thinking and beliefs.

Perhaps you’re feeling that at the moment. You’re trying to do it all - be the perfect mum, keep your household running like clockwork, achieve big things at work, keep the romance alive in your relationship, stay fit, look great, and so on and so on. It feels like you need to do all these things. That’s success as a modern working mother.

Well, that’s one version of success, but it’s one that often leaves women feeling like they’re not enough and never doing enough.

I’ve learned to question the definitions of success that I feel I ought to pursue to see if it aligns with my values, goals and desires. We don’t have to sign up to the unrealistic expectations that are currently so prevalent in our society. We get to redefine what success means to us at this point in life (it may be different later and it may be different to what you thought success meant earlier in life).

The only definition of success that really matters is YOURS. ✨
